Written in 1888 by Rudyard Kipling, TGOTHS follows one man's descent into the ethereal world of a Calcutta opium den and explores the surreal and surprising interactions between its eclectic clientele. Fundamentally a tragedy, the protagonist's romantic vision of 'The Gate' and 'The Black Smoke' gives way to the harsh realities of life, death and addiction. Our adaptation brings Kipling's vision to light in a new setting, in a surreal take on contemporary austerity-ridden Britain.
